vacation!

I got to play with horsies today! :)

Work is making us all take 10 vacation days this quarter, and with a full class schedule i don't have much choice of when those days are. As my Lady is leaving for grad school at the end of the month, i managed to get someone to cover for me for the rest of the week, though, so we could spend some time doing something fun. So today we went horseback riding :)

It was great fun, we hadn't done that in a long time. We went to Pocono Adventures Riding Stable, about an hour away. It was horribly hot out, but we were riding in the morning, and mostly in the woods, so it was shaded. The horse (well, mule actually, as airgeadach pointed out) i was riding was called Maggie, very sweet, but sneaky -- when she thought i wasn't looking she would try to sneak a mouthful of grass or occasionally grab leaves off a branch. The ride was 2 hours... We want to go back and do their 4 hour trail when it's cooler out.

We stopped off for lunch at the Pocono Brewing Company on the way home. We got an order of chicken wings, but didn't even manage half of it... These chickens must have been lifting weights or something... they were huge! It's not an actual brew pub, but they do have a lot of different beers there. They had Blue Moon (a favourite of mine) on tap, and i had their house Black Ghost Caramel Porter for desert, while airgeadach stuck to iced chai lattés.

Then it was off home to the animals, and the AC. Just in time, as the nasty heat of the day was about to hit...

Ok, the mood ring thing wasn't doing it for me... "rub your mouse over this ring"? Wtf? On the off-chance it was an interactive flash thingy, i almost dragged the image to another window, too :) It must work, though, because it divined my skepticism and twice "randomly" gave me "mixed, unsettled, cool" before any colours showed up. Well... real mood rings never work on me, either :)
