I meant to post this yesterday, but, well, life happens. Hope everybody had a good Samhain/Hallowe'en! I vaguely recall hearing that rather than using a calendar, people used to use the first occurrence of frost as a sign of the Wheel of the year turning. Around here that happened last night...

Another (new!) tradition for this time of year: All Hallow's Read.Neil Gaiman thought there should be a holiday when people give each other books, so invented a new tradition: during the week of Hallowe'en, give someone a scary book. And then a bunch of other people joined in, and i guess now it is a tradition. I gave [livejournal.com profile] luvcherbear a copy of "The Wolves in The Walls" to read to our little Bean :)

Speaking (or writing) of... the Bean has been keeping us busy :) He was two months old this weekend, and is now sleeping through the night (most nights, anyway). Not that we are... still waking up every few hours to check on him! Sleep deprivation has become my new hobby, almost as much as when i was in grad school :)

We also had our first day trip. [livejournal.com profile] luvcherbear and i go to the PA Renn Faire every year for my birthday and we weren't sure we would be able to make it this year. But we did, and went with [livejournal.com profile] neko_no_kioku and [livejournal.com profile] chibimonnie and had a wonderful time. The Bean was wonderfully behaved at the Faire, even while getting changed in a shady spot on the grass. Later though... we stayed over at the hotel across the road and he had his usual evening colicky melt-down (which is now getting better). Usually the vibrating bouncy seat and the white noise of the bathroom ventilation fan calm him down, but the hotel bathroom didn't have a fan. I made do with the wall-mounted hair drier on low speed and that seemed to do the trick. And the hotel staff were very understanding when we had to ask them for a replacement comforter after he spewed all over the bed :) But we survived our first night away from home. I hope that's a good sign for when we go visit his grandparents in California at the end of December!
